Essential oils for perfumery and aromatherapy

The use of essential and aromatic oils throughout history is very widespread, in the fields of medicine, food, and perfumery. In Judaism, incense from plant sources was also used in the Temple. The Talmud recounts that when the Temple stood in Jerusalem, no woman in the vicinity needed to wear perfume at all. Essential oils is a name given to the volatile substances that give an aromatic plant its characteristic smell, but the truth is that technically it is a misleading term, because it is not oil at all. In hot air, you can simply drip the essential oils onto a large, wide candle, after a "pool" of wax has formed (not on the flame itself). You can drip them onto household curtains or sofas for a pleasant smell in their vicinity, you can drip a little into shoes and let them evaporate inside them, to neutralize strong odors.
